Better in Boots

It’s only February, but I think it’s safe to say that Jessica Alba is already far ahead in the running for worst boot look of the year. I can’t imagine what possessed her to wear such a getup to one of the premiers of her movie Valentines Day. I’m all for mixing things up, but this just seems like some kind of cheap ploy to get attention, even if it’s on the worst dressed list. As far as boots go, I’d say this is a good example of what NOT to do.

There is little doubt that the eagle eyes of fashion will be zoning in on whatever Sarah Jessica Parker and the girls wear in the Sex and the City 2 movie, and these adorable Pierre Hardy ankle boots, seen on SJP while on set, will be no exception. In fact, depending on how much close-up they get, I’d imagine they’ll sell out quickly once they become available. They are part of the designer’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection.

Having been called one of fashion’s “hidden gems” Pierre Hardy has the distinction of being worn by the fashion elite, and commanding commensurate prices, but has yet to be known (or counterfeited) by the masses, a fate that has plagued Christian Louboutin, Yves Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen, among others. This all may change at some point, especially since Hardy just designed a low-brow line for the GAP, and has a twitter account that is documenting any and every place his designs are worn by celebs like Leighton Meester and Kim Kardashian, but for now, this French designer, who just celebrated his 10th anniversary in the business, remains fairly ensconced in the very small, and very elite, upper echelons of fashion.

Kim was bringing Hollywood to Harlem, shopping with her mom at the NYC upper westside boutique “Bourgeoisie”. Alexandre Birman has a way with python, using this exotic material to create delicate lines that still manage to make a strong statemnt. My  favorite this season is his peep-toe bootie in a luxurious deep royal blue. With a slightly more substantial heel than the needle and stilettos we’ve been seeing, they seem like they could hold up for a night on the town. Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester seems to agree as she was spotted in these one evening recently. But at the $750 price point I’ll have to just keep imagining for now…Available at BergdorfGoodman.com
