I think red boots are just fun. And since today is Thanksgiving, and midnight tonight officially marks our entry into the holiday season where red becomes the new black, I thought I’d post on some notable boots in this color. This two-tone Vivianne Westwood Twin Boot is both festive and chic. I could see it at a nice [insert your December holiday of choice] party with a great mini-skirt and either bare legs or tights, depending on the weather where you are.
Can I say “Christmas” by the way? I guess so since this is just my blog and I think you should be able to celebrate and talk about the holiday you observe without offending anyone. My friends from India often send me emails wishing me a “Merry Christmas” for my sake and I find it touching. And, when the time comes, I write “Happy Diwali” to them. Same goes with Hannukah and Kwanzaa. When my friends from Pakistan or Bangladesh send me an E-card wishing me “Eid Mubarak”, I’m touched. They know that I know that they know that I”m not Muslim, but I’m happy to get the greeting. I’ll often send them Christmas greetings. It’s a great feeling.
I like that system rather thant delivering a lukewarm, ”Happy Holidays” to everyone. I do understand that, in places such at public schools, offices–anywhere a generalized holiday message is called for, that his greeting works. Especially because of the long history of Christian domination and persecution of others which carried into the first few centuries of this country’s existence.
In fact “Happy Holidays” is a festive sentiment, and I have nothing against it per se. It’s more a culture of NOT feeling free to share your own personal holiday with others that gets to me. I sometimes feel hesitant to say Merry Christmas outside my family/friend circle anymore, for fear of offending someone, and I don’t think it should be that way either. In John Lenon’s world, there’d be no religion, so NONE of us would celebrate our holiday. In my world, everyone would keep their lovely traditions while also appreciating others. It goes like this: Person A: Merry Christmas!!! Person B: Yes, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!! Person A: “Yeah, Happy Hannukah!!”. Smiles all around.
OMH (H standing for “Higher Power,or Lack-thereof, of the Reader’s Choice!”) how did this turn into a diatribe on holidays and religious persecution?
OK back to the boots. They’re sexy no matter what you celebrate. I’d buy them. Available for $593 at zappos.com.
